A Note from Kristiana, BACF Executive Director

My Teaching Philosophy

The early years of a child’s life are a sacred time, laying the foundation for how they will view the world and themselves. Inspired by Waldorf educational philosophy, my teaching philosophy centers on nurturing the whole child—head, heart, and hands—through rhythm, creativity, and a deep respect for the unfolding of childhood.

I believe in an approach to early childhood education that integrates the physical, emotional, social, and cognitive aspects of development while honoring each child’s individuality and pace of growth. This approach includes:

Child-Centered and Developmentally Respectful Learning
Every child has unique gifts and a natural rhythm to their development. My programs are designed to meet children where they are, fostering joy and discovery through imaginative play, storytelling, nature exploration, and artistic activities that awaken creativity and curiosity.

Creation of a Warm and Safe Environment
A beautiful, nurturing, and secure environment is essential for children to thrive. By surrounding children with warmth, rhythm, and consistency, we cultivate a sense of belonging and allow them to feel respected, protected, and inspired.

Family as Partners in Education
Families are vital companions in the child’s journey. I embrace open dialogue and partnership with families, weaving their values and traditions into our work to create a shared sense of community and continuity for the child.

Educators as Guides and Models
Educators in our program are not only trained professionals, but also caring guides who model compassion, creativity, and reverence for life. Through continuous professional development and inner growth, teachers remain inspired and attuned to the needs of the children.

Balance of Rhythm, Play, and Gentle Guidance
Waldorf philosophy emphasizes the importance of rhythm and balance. Our days blend imaginative free play with simple structured activities such as music, movement, seasonal crafts, and storytelling. Play remains at the heart of learning, allowing children to develop problem-solving skills, social understanding, and creativity in a natural way.

Whole Child Development
Our curriculum seeks to nourish the whole child—body, mind, and spirit—through healthy routines, artistic experiences, emotional support, and intellectual curiosity. We honor the seasons, nature, and the community as essential teachers in a child’s development.

Fostering Wonder and Reverence
Encouraging a sense of wonder, reverence, and creativity is central. I strive to cultivate experiences that inspire children to explore beauty in nature, express themselves artistically, and carry compassion and curiosity into their future lives.

My Directing Philosophy

As Executive Director, I view leadership through the lens of service, inspiration, and stewardship. My role is to set a clear vision and rhythm for the organization while ensuring our work remains deeply aligned with our mission of nurturing children, families, and community.

I focus on creating an organizational culture rooted in collaboration, creativity, and respect. Just as Waldorf teachers guide children through warmth and inspiration, I believe directors should empower staff through trust, professional growth, and shared responsibility.

Community engagement is at the heart of our work. I strive to weave strong relationships with families, staff, and community partners, listening deeply to their needs and collaborating to create a vibrant and sustainable program.

I also value sustainability—of our resources, our environment, and our people. Wise stewardship of finances, care for our facilities, and balance in work-life rhythms are essential for long-term success.

Finally, my leadership is grounded in integrity, transparency, and resilience. By modeling dedication and authenticity, I aim to inspire others to bring their best selves forward, creating an environment where every team member feels valued, supported, and connected to our shared mission.
